A statement by the Board of Social Responsibility

The Board is united in its concern that many people are being encouraged to spend more on the Lottery and scratch cards than they can afford. All Board members also agreed in their concern at the following.

  1. The enormously high prizes
  2. The encouragement of gambling, especially among young people
  3. The high percentage of revenue taken by the Government and the far too low percentage awarded to charities
  4. The unhappy side-effects on charitable giving and the policy decisions of charities
  5. The very high profit taken by Camelot

The Ely Diocesan Board for Social Responsibility includes members of seven other churches besides having wide representation from the Church of England in the Diocese.
