The Ministry Bursary Award Scheme

Ecclesiastical Insurance Group,
Beaufort House, Brunswick Road, Gloucester GL1 1JZ

The Ecclesiastical Insurance Group's Bursary Scheme is open to those engaged in full time stipendiary ministry in a Christian Church, whether clerical or lay people, male or female.

The Awards aim to provide opportunities to pursue a work related line of enquiry or build on established foundations of study outside the pressures of a demanding ministry.

A. Requirements

Applicants must normally have completed at least 10 years full time stipendiary ministry in the Anglican Church, or one which is fully recognised as being within the mainstream of Christian Churches. Particular consideration will be given to applicants who have had extended service in their ministry.

Applicants must have their Diocesan or District permission in writing accompanied by an application. We shall expect personal confirmation from their Bishop, Archdeacon (or the equivalent to Bishop in non-episcopal churches) on the application together with his comments on the course of action proposed and the applicant's suitability for it.

Award recipients must write a report on their use of the award and the benefits which have arisen from it. Reports should contain a minimum of 2000 words and a photograph, together with a 100-150 word Project Summary.

B. Judging

Entries for 2002 were judged by the current judging panel, The Rt Revd Dr Donald Snelgrove, The Very Revd John Simpson, The Ven Brian Harris, and Mr Graham Doswell, Managing Director, Ecclesiastical Insurance Group.

The judges will be looking for particularly imaginative and worthwhile ideas which will help churches relate to the needs of modern society - ideas which will use Awards to help clergy or lay workers make an even greater contribution to their congregation and communities.

C. Entries Deadline

Entries for the year 2003 must be sent to:
Miss Jo Enefer, Ecclesiastical Insurance Group,
Beaufort House, Brunswick Road, Gloucester GL1 1JZ
to arrive by 30th September 2002.
