Child Protection
A Guide to the Criminal Records Bureau 'Disclosure' Process and its use in the appointment of people who work with children, young people and vulnerable adults in the parishes and organisations of the diocese.
Summary
-
The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) provides a 'one stop shop' checking process for appointments on behalf of organisations which work with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
-
The Diocese will use this service as part of the appointments process for all volunteers and paid staff who work with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
-
Its services are not designed to replace the appointments processes described in the Diocesan Child Protection Folder, which follow advice found in the Home Office guidelines Safe from Harm, but rather to supplement them.
-
The CRB 'Disclosure' System had been designed to be fair and efficient. For this reason its services are only available through a 'Registered Body'.
-
The Registered Body for the Diocese of Ely is the Bishop of Ely's Office
-
The 'Disclosure' application process in the Diocese is designed to relieve pressure in the parishes and provide a fair and confidential system for handling sensitive information.
All the documents included in this package may be fully and freely copied for use in parishes and other diocesan organisations. It may be helpful to keep the originals in your parish copy of the diocesan Child Protection Folder so that it may be easily located.
